Philosophical Significance

Core Meaning

Here Krishna names different beings and things to show that the same divine presence shines in many forms. In one place he is the fierce, transformative power (Shankara); in another he appears as wealth, as the guardian of resources; as fire he is the purifier; and as Mount Meru he is the highest, steady peak.

The deeper point is that the one reality expresses itself through many qualities. Every quality—power, wealth, heat, height—can be a doorway to the divine when seen rightly and used rightly.

This verse asks us to recognize unity behind diversity and to balance these qualities within ourselves rather than worshiping only the outer form.

Life Application

  • Treat power and strength with humility: use them to protect and uplift, not to dominate.
  • Handle money and resources responsibly: see wealth as a tool for service, not as an end.
  • Keep inner fire (discipline, clarity) alive through simple daily practices—regular effort, honest speech, and small acts of purification.

Reflection Question

Which of these divine qualities—strength, resources, purification, or steadiness—do you need to bring forward in your life today?
