Translation

You are the primal God, the ancient Purusha, the supreme refuge of this universe, the knower, the knowable, and the supreme Abode. Through You, the universe is pervaded, O Being of infinite forms.

Philosophical Significance

Core Meaning

This verse points to the Divine as the original, eternal source of everything. It calls the Divine the primal Purusha—the first being and the ultimate refuge of the universe.

It also says the Divine is both the knower and the known, and the supreme dwelling place. In other words, the same reality is the subject that sees and the object that is seen; everything exists within that presence.

Finally, the world is not apart from that being. The whole universe is pervaded by this one presence and appears in unlimited forms, all held within the same ground of being.

Life Application

  • Pause each day and feel a steady presence behind your thoughts—this helps cut anxiety and ground decisions in something larger than immediate reactions.
  • Treat people and situations as expressions of the same life-source: respond with patience, respect, and care.
  • In hard moments, take refuge in that larger presence (through prayer, breath, or a short meditation) to regain strength and perspective.

Reflection Question

If you felt that the same one presence filled everything around you, what small change would you make in how you treat yourself or others today?
