Philosophical Significance
Core Meaning
When a person truly understands the two paths—how action and awareness lead either to continued entanglement or to liberation—they are not confused about life’s purpose. True knowledge removes the fear and wrong ideas that make us chase the temporary.
A yogi who knows this stays steady. Being "steadfast in yoga" means keeping the mind fixed in awareness and acting without getting lost in results or worry.
So the verse tells us: learn the deeper truth about life and death, make inner practice steady, and you will not be thrown off by ups and downs.
Life Application
- Start each day with a short practice (breath or quiet awareness) to center your attention and remind yourself of what matters.
- When you feel anxious or stuck, pause and ask whether your reaction serves long-term inner peace or only momentary gain.
- Keep one simple habit (like mindful breathing) to return to steadiness whenever life feels chaotic.
Reflection Question
In moments of stress, do I turn inward to steady my mind or do I react from fear and attachment?
