Translation

The Blessed Lord said, "I shall now declare to thee, who does not cavil, the greatest secret—the knowledge combined with experience (Self-realisation). Having known this, thou shalt be free from evil."

Philosophical Significance

Core Meaning

Here the Lord tells Arjuna that he will reveal the deepest teaching to one who is free of envy. This is not a secret for cleverness, but for a sincere heart ready to learn.

The teaching is "knowledge with realization" — not just ideas, but truth lived and experienced. Intellectual understanding alone is not enough; the knowledge must transform how you see yourself and the world.

When you truly know and live this truth, you become free from the habits and pains that tie you to suffering. Freedom comes from inner change, not from outside gains.

Life Application

  • Be open and humble when learning: put aside jealousy and competitiveness so you can receive and practice deeper truths.
  • Combine study with practice: read about wisdom, then use meditation, self-observation, or honest action to make it real.
  • Do your duty with awareness and without clinging to results; this reduces worry and frees you from needless suffering.

Reflection Question

Am I open and humble enough to let knowledge change how I live?
