Verily, these hosts of gods enter into Thee; some extol Thee with joined palms in fear, saying, 'May it be well!' Bands of great sages and perfected ones praise Thee with complete hymns.
Philosophical Significance
Core Meaning
This verse shows that even gods and great sages respond to the universal form with awe and reverence. Some stand in fear, palms joined, asking for well-being; others — wise and perfected — sing full hymns of praise.
Philosophically, it points to one truth: the divine is greater than any being. Different responses (fear, prayer, praise) are natural reactions to meeting that magnitude. True wisdom is to recognise the same ultimate reality behind all things and respond with humble respect.
Spiritually, the verse invites us to let awe soften the ego. Fear can become respectful caution, and praise can become devoted service. Both lead to surrender and deeper connection with what is larger than ourselves.
Life Application
- When you face something overwhelming (a crisis, nature, or a powerful person), pause, breathe, and offer a simple prayer or wish for well-being instead of reacting from ego.
- Let moments of awe reduce pride: practice small acts of service and gratitude as expressions of praise.
- Use fear as a signal to respond with humility and careful action, not avoidance or arrogance.
Reflection Question
When you feel overwhelmed, do you meet it with fear, pride, or humble surrender?
