Translation

I do not see that this sorrow that burns up my senses would be removed, even if I were to attain prosperous and unrivaled dominion on earth or lordship over the gods.

Philosophical Significance

Core Meaning

Arjuna says that no amount of wealth, power, or even rulership over gods could take away the deep sorrow that grips him. His pain comes from a moral and emotional conflict, not from a lack of external rewards.

Philosophically, this shows that inner suffering is rooted in attachment, confusion, and a wounded heart. Outer success can change your situation, but it does not heal inner doubts or guilt.

True relief comes from looking inward: understanding your duty, calming the senses, and seeing what really matters. Spiritual growth is about clearing confusion, not collecting more things or titles.

Life Application

  • Before chasing achievement, pause and name the feeling causing your actions. Ask whether success will truly solve it.
  • Practice small daily steps to calm the mind: brief meditation, honest self-talk about your responsibilities, and simple acts of service without expecting reward.
  • When faced with a hard choice, weigh values and duty over ego or status. Decisions aligned with integrity ease inner conflict.

Reflection Question

Is my current pursuit trying to fix a feeling that only inner clarity can heal?
